Firebird Ridden by Michael Landing
Algid Stakes - 9F - G3
They had finished a close second behind Lynara's Kingdom. The grey filly from SOPS had slipped her nose in front of the charging chestnut after he had fought off Biohazard from Close Racing. Michael had been a bit upset at the loss. They had been sitting in G3 for too long. Now was the time to start making wins if they were going to start making bids for the bigger races.
The chestnut colt was acting the part of a colt today. He danced away from Micahel's hand as he reached for the reins. Fire...not today......please...we got work to do! Michael finally grabbed the reins and untied them as he led the colt out into the light of day. Fire tossed his head exuberantly as entered into the arena of life. The sun shone down and reflected off of his coat. With his motion he was like living rippling flames of fire. Michael was proud of his colt. He'd done great things since his return the last half of the year and Nick and Michael were expecting more...and they were going to get it from the Oddside son.
Michael pulled himself up in the saddle quickly before Fire could debate the matter. He shook his head and took a few steps as Michael got his seat. Gathering the reins he took control of the colt and pushed him towards the turf. The duo glided over the ground as they made their appearance. Fire immediately, puffed out and carried his head high as if to announce to all the breezing horses that the king had arrived. Michael smirked at the colt's brief moment of arrogance before pushing him forward onto the track as they began their warm up laps.
The turf flew as Michael began to ease out the colt. The energy pulsated through every fiber of the colt. His head reached forward as though it could make him fly faster and farther. He had to admit, Firebird was looking in good form. He'd had a solid season, but now was the time to build up for the bigger races, but it was gonna take wins and they were going to attempt that in this race. Wild Kiss and Silent Fury. Both fillies were already one win away from G2. They would be gunning for the win. Fire and Silent Fury would leading and Wild Kiss would be free to run her usual place unchallenged in the back.
It would take effort and determination, but they were done falling behind. They were gunning for the win.
